EN: IN-SITU in Agrigento: a multidisciplinary residency at the heart of living heritage
From 18 to 23 May 2026, the IN-SITU project held its first multidisciplinary residency in Agrigento, Sicily. Twelve Tunisian and Italian experts — six from each country — with deliberately diverse profiles came together in the neighborhoods of Montaperto and Villaseta for an intensive week of territorial immersion. Architects, landscape designers, screenwriters, directors, painters, anthropologists and experts in intangible heritage explored these areas with open notebooks and no predefined agenda. Walking, observing and sensing the place: this was the method.
The tools used — sensitive mapping, field journals, photographs, recordings and sketches — enabled each discipline to bring its own perspective to a territory rich in history and memory. This cross-disciplinary approach lies at the heart of Working Group GT1 “Community Lab” of the IN-SITU project. The residency will continue from 8 to 13 June 2026 in Tunisia, in the Medina of Tunis and in Zaghouan, where the Italian experts will be welcomed for an immersion in the Tunisian project sites.
IN-SITU is co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT Italy–Tunisia 2021–2027 programme.
